Mother Knows Best...

In the baby pool Amber picked today, February 27th at 7:30 p.m.

Well, Landon Scott Castleberry was born today, February 27th at 7:13 p.m.

It looks like mothers really do know best.

Hello friends and family - this is Ashley posting on Amber's behalf.  I am happy to report that Landon and Amber are doing great!!  I just got off the phone with her (it's 8:30) and she was already nursing him.  Landon weighed in at 5 lb. 11 oz. and was 19 inches long.  (Winner of the baby pool TBD).  Amber says he looks just like Scott!

They welcome visitors, however they are waiting for a room to become available so you can call Amber's cell to schedule a time to come and see the newest Castleberry family member.  (Please do call beforehand).

And for all of you that are interested in a few more of the 'gory' details (however if you know anything about Amber and her giving birth to Ella Beth you know that she is a pro at labor and delivery):

She was having some extreme pains this morning so she called the doctor and they told her to come in.  She got to the doctor's office about 10 a.m.  They told her to go to the hospital, however she chose not to?  (She'll have to explain her reasoning herself).  She called a family friend who is a nurse at Northside and she told her to come in they had a room waiting for her.  So she and Scott dropped Ella Beth off at Scott's parents house and headed to the hospital.  She was admitted about 12.  She called me around 2:00 and said that she had received her IV and that they were waiting for her to complete one bag of fluid and then they would break her water (if needed) and receive her epidural.  Around 6:30 she was at 6 cm.  At 6:55 she was at 10 cm.  She pushed for just about 5 minutes and at 7:13 her son was born!  (Don't you wish we all had a story like this...WOW!  You go girlfriend!!)

You can post comments - I know Amber will enjoy reading them when she gets home.  She will post pictures this weekend.

CONGRATULATIONS SCOTT, AMBER, and BIG SIS ELLA BETH!!!

Baby Poll Update

I've had so many responses responses to Landon's Baby Poll - it's been more fun than I expected!  I was really pulling for Ashley to win because she had chosen today, Feb. 24.  Unfortunately for both of us, I must report that I'm still pregnant.  Feeling quite miserable, but hanging in there.  I've had lots of contractions and some "signs" that things are progressing, but nothing to send us rushing down to the hospital...yet.  Hopefully, that time will come very soon.  As in, say, tomorrow?!!

As of right now, March 1st is in the lead for Landon's due date; followed closely by February 29th and March 3rd.   I've kinda always thought that he would arrive on Feb. 27th, but I'm not counting in my vote...unless of course I win. ;)  Just kidding, the "winner" will be who ever is the closest.

Hope to announce the winner in the VERY near future - with pictures to boot!

Progress!

Finally some progress!  I went for my doctor's appointment today.  I am 2 cm dilated and 60% effaced.  The midwife that I saw today said, "Oh my goodness.  He really is right there!"  So, I'm crossing my fingers, toes, legs (well, figuratively anyway since I can't lift either one while sitting :) ), and eyes hoping that Landon comes soon.  I just hurt so much "down there" that it makes just about everything I do very difficult.  When I asked the midwife if there was anything I could do to help things along, she only recommended having sex.  Oh the joys of the end of the 3rd trimester.  That's what got me in this situation, and it may have to be what gets me out!

Yesterday, I had a reflexology appointment on my hands and feet.  My friend, Laura, had it done and went into labor that evening.  Not as lucky here, but it was still a nice pampering experience.  Don't know if I was dilated any before the appointment or not, so I can't say if it was successful or not.  However, if I don't go into labor on my own by my next doctor's appointment (Thursday), I'll be making another appointment to have my hands and feet done.  Can't blame a girl for trying. :)

Still no talk of an induction this week because they seem to think I'll go on my own.  That will be interesting.  I just don't know what to expect.  I would love for it to be exciting, but not so exciting that Landon is born on the side of 400!

I am loving the responses from Landon's Baby Poll.  I'm really hoping that Ashley wins because her guess is this Sunday!  There are quite a few guesses for a Leap Year Baby...I don't know how I feel about that!  Hoping to post more progress soon, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Tidbits

I realized that I forgot to post a picture of the beautiful flowers that Scott had delivered for Valentine's Day.  I love carnations because they last for such a long time.  And, since I do not have a green thumb, that's good for me!

Ever since Ella Beth discovered her stuffed animals in her room, she has been all about playing with them.  Yesterday morning, this was the scene in our bathroom.  Ella Beth brought all of her animals to me so they could "get ready" with us.  They simply HAD to sit on the counter - just like Ella Beth.  Needless to say, Mommy didn't have much room to get herself ready with everyone taking up the space!
But, it's very cute to me how Ella Beth wants to include her animals in activities lately.  She likes to read to them, feed them, change their diapers, cover them up and put them to bed.  She has practiced very well on Baby Anna, now moving on to her animals, and hopefully being as sweet to her little brother in the very near future. ;)

Ella Beth is growing up so much these days.  She is becoming very independent.  Her most used phrase lately is, "Ella Beth do it."  Whether it's putting on her shoes & socks, brushing her hair, getting things out of the fridge, putting her buckle on in the car seat...it just doesn't matter.  You can only imagine how intriguing it makes my day.  For instance, diaper changes have become quite interesting!  However, it's fun to watch her grow and learn.  One of my favorite things that she does (and I will always cherish this memory):  Ella Beth has to wear her diapers in a certain order.  They go by characters.  We have to use all of Ernie, then Zoe, then Cookie Monster, and finally Elmo.  Well, a few weeks ago she wanted Ernie so I was going through her diapers and randomly said, "Let's see," as I picked through them to find Ernie.  Well, now Ella Beth has to choose her diaper.  As she picks through them, she says, "Let's see," over and over until she finds who she's looking for.  It is just so stinkin' cute and sweet.  She picks up on the cutest things, and it's so special that she wants to be just like Mommy.  I l-o-v-e it!

Since Ella Beth has always been an animal lover, Scott and I have been teaching her the birds that we find in our yard.  Her favorite birds are Cardinals (male and female) and a Red-Bellied Woodpecker (we call him Woody).  Today, Ella Beth was watching the birds out the window.  She saw a Cardinal and got excited so she turned to tell me; when she looked back, he had flown away and Ella Beth said, "Where's the cardinal?"

She amazes me at what she learns and how well she expresses her thoughts.  No one ever told me how much I would enjoy this aspect of motherhood.  I really only expected to relish in the "lovey moments" with my children (fun to say!).  Don't get me wrong, I live for her kisses and hugs and "I love yous," but I also live to watch her learn.  Right now she is all about Jesus.  How fun is that?!!  Her favorite song is Jesus Loves Me, and she wants to sing it over and over.  She gets Daddy to play it on the guitar, we play it in the car, and we sing it just about everywhere we go (even outloud in the grocery!).  I know she doesn't grasp the concept of who Jesus is and what an amazing sacrifice he paid for her, but we've got a good thing going.  I can't wait for her to learn even more about Jesus and God and how much they love her.

Prego update & HUGE milestone

Not much to update.  Landon is still "right there."  My cervix hasn't dilated any, but it is "ripe."  The doctor said that I could very well go early, and I'm hoping so.  My iron is a little low, but it's probably from being so sick earlier this week.  They are going to check it again next week to make sure that I'm not anemic.  It seems a little late to worry about that anyway!

Well, here are my last belly-shots...at least they BETTER be my last!!!  If I'm still prego in a month for more pics, I will be in the looney bin and won't be allowed to post shots. :)  NOTE:  I took these pictures myself so that I wouldn't forget.  I had to run across the room and get in position.  If anyone had been watching, I'm sure it was a sight.  But...that's the reason they're not very good.

Ella Beth achieved a HUGE, GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS milestone today.  When Scott dropped her off at Waumba Land for Sunday school, she did not cry!!!  I stood in the hall, and just watched in amazement as Scott handed Ella Beth to Miss Tracey, and Ella Beth just reached out to her and went to Sunday school.  It was HUGE in the lives of the Castleberry family.  We were hoping to reach this milestone by her second birthday, but it has now been reached at 18 months.  So wonderful!  We talked over breakfast about going to church, and Ella Beth would say, "Goldfish and Jesus."  She definitely knows what's important at Sunday school! ;)  We are hoping that Sundays to come are just as great for Ella Beth.

I am feeling much better than I was a few days ago.  I'm not getting sick anymore, but I am still feeling a bit weak and more tired than I was.  I guess getting so sick at the end of pregnancy just drains what little energy is left.  I could use a bit more patience with Ella Beth, so I would not mind a prayer or two. :)  It seems as though she is "sensing" a big change to come with Mommy b/c she is being more clingy than ever...and that is A LOT.  I'm just having a difficult time giving her every second of my attention that she wants b/c I have so many things to do.  However, I am also trying to cherish these last days with just my baby girl because I know I will never have them back.  It's just such a hard transition.  Oh boy, here come some emotions.  Going to go kiss my baby girl...

Such un-welcomed drama

So...having a GI infection and being 36 weeks prego do NOT go together.  Scott came down with a mild stomach bug on Monday, but we kept our distance from one another.  It didn't work.  I was diagnosed with a severe GI infection yesterday which sent me into Pre-Term Labor.  I have never been so sick in my entire life.  Honestly.  I started having contractions around 2 PM, and by 6 PM they were constant and 10 minutes apart.  They lasted for about 3 1/2-4 hours.  I called the doctor at 3 when I realized that something was seriously wrong, and was immediately given an Rx for Phinigren to stop me from throwing up.  It didn't work.  I honestly got sick over 50 times between 2PM and 4:30 this morning.  If you think I'm exaggerating, just ask my sweet hubby who was taking care of me.  I am exhausted, weak, and tired this morning.  However, I am feeling dramatically better than I was yesterday.  I have drunk a gallon of Gatorade, but not much of it has stayed down.  So, our goal today (the doctor's and mine) is to keep as much Gatorade down as I can.

Scott took Ella Beth to his parents' house for the day.  I would love to pick her up around lunch, but I'll just have to see how I feel.  There is no way that I want to chance her catching what I had.

I am hoping to be off bed-rest by tomorrow since my contractions have subsided.  I have a shower this weekend being thrown by my sweet friends Jenny and Meredith that I simply must attend. :)

Anyway, thanks for the calls and emails checking up on me.  I really do appreciate them.  Hopefully, I'll be able to return all of them by the end of today.  Right now, I am going to try to eat a piece of toast.  Whoever thought that trying to eat a piece of toast would be so scary??!  Here's hoping it stays down.

Oh yeah...I totally forgot that I went for my Perinatal appointment yesterday morning.  Wow...it was an interesting day.  Everything looks good with Little Landon.  He is "small," but he's very healthy.  He is weighing in at 5 lbs, 4 oz which puts him at the 15-20 percentile for a fetus at 36 weeks.  (OKay, we've had lots of dealings with the whole percentile charts since Ella Beth is little, but I about cracked up when they brought out one for Landon.  It seems we just can't get away from them!)  The perinatologist says that there is concern when a baby is below the 10% or above the 90%.  So, with Landon at 15-20%, we're looking good.  Anyway, we are hoping that I make it until 37-38 weeks for an induction.  That should put Landon very close to Ella Beth's birth weight, so the concern of having to have a c-section is lifted for now.  Hoping it stays that way.  I am meeting with my regular doctor this Friday, and I'll let you know how it goes.

Toast, here I come.  Wish me luck.

Welcome home...fish?

Over the past weekend I attended the Cup of Joy retreat at Berry College.  It was a lovely experience full of relaxation, reflection, and renewal.  The theme of the retreat was "The Bride of Christ," and we talked and studied about how God told Jesus to "go get yourself an adulterous wife" - just as he told Hosea.  It was a very  unique way of looking at the love that the Father and Jesus have for us.  We are adulterous on so many different levels...whenever we put anything above or before  Him.  Yet, despite our adultery, He still pursues our hearts as His bride.  One of my favorite quotes from the weekend is this: "God wants you to lose sight of yourself long enough to be overwhelmed by the sight of Him."  Beautiful.

If you'd like more information about Cup of Joy, you can visit them online at www.cupofjoy.org.  There are some amazing women who orchestrate the organization.  (While I was on the retreat, I got an idea of what Scott and I can do for our 6th anniversary next year.  I hope we can go on the Winshape "Romantic Adventure" retreat.  Fun, fun!)

It was surprising to me how "well" I did away from Ella Beth.  I would say that I thought about her often, but I didn't necessarily long for her like I thought I would.  I am so thankful that God allowed me some time away to renew myself - as His daughter, as a wife, and as a mother.  I can't wait for the opportunity to do it again.  Albeit, it may be a while!

Well, I arrived home to pets.  Ella Beth and Daddy's pets.  Which of course become Mommy's pets. :)  Daddy does, however, promise to clean the tank.  Thank goodness!

Ella Beth loves her fish.  She asks to feed them at least 15 times each day.  We are currently feeding them about 5 times per day, but not too much at one feeding.  She HAS to feed them herself, of course.  We're still working at getting all of the fish food in the tank!!!

Today, my friend Meredith and her little boy came over to visit and play.  It is always SO nice to have them visit, and today was especially nice.  I started having very persistent and intense contractions early this morning.  Today was the first day that I have ever experienced back labor.  Oh My Word.  It was horrible.  If I didn't have Mere's visit to distract me, I would have balled up and just cried in misery for a while.  (I probably should have called my doctor b/c my contractions lasted about three hours, but since I have my appointment tomorrow I was trying to "tough it out."  I felt better in the afternoon, but started feeling badly again this evening.  We'll see what the perinatal specialist says tomorrow.)  Anyway, Meredith's little boy, Jackson, is a sweetie and Ella Beth loves him to pieces!  When she woke up from her nap this afternoon, her first word was "Jackson!"  Here's a cute pic of the two of them together on the sofa.  Ella Beth has a tendency to put her fingers in her mouth when she gets a little shy or embarassed.  I think Jackson lovin' on her made her blush. :)

Oh, boy! Prego update.

Well, well, well.  Of all the appointments, this has been the most interesting (and longest) of this pregnancy.  I actually saw 4 different doctors/nurses/midwives this morning.  I had an ultrasound to determine how Landon and I are growing.  Apparently, we're not growing much.  I lost a pound.  Landon and I both measured 32 weeks today, which is 3-4 weeks behind where I am in pregnancy.  (They have concluded that they can't really determine my due date all of a sudden.)  Anyway, my cervix hasn't dilated, but I am "thin" and almost 50% effaced.  The doctor said that Landon is "right there" and "the only thing keeping him in, is that my cervix hasn't dilated more."  Okay.  Interesting.

Landon and I are having another "test" at the Perinatal Center on Tuesday.  They want to make sure that everything is okay in case he does come, or they decide they need to induce me, within the next 2 or 3 weeks.  Apparently, my body just gets to a point where it just can't grow any more.  I did this with Ella Beth, too.  However, since my body never showed signs of progression the way it is with this pregnancy I didn't have to do these special tests.  I am sure things are all fine, but I am thankful that I have doctors and midwives who really do look out for our best interests.  Can I also say, that I'm glad to know that
my misery isn't all in my head.  I have been in such discomfort for the
last two weeks; it's just nice to know that I'm not a weeny. :)
I am relieved to know that Landon isn't a "big baby," too.  Hopefully, that will make labor and delivery as wonderful this go 'round as it was with Ella Beth.  People think I'm crazy, but that's what I'm looking forward to the most.  It was just such a fantastic experience with Ella Beth, that I am so excited about being in the hospital and giving birth!

I'll be sure to post an update next week after my perinatal appointment.

This weekend, my friend Ashley and I are going on a women's retreat at Berry College - my old stomping grounds!  It is the Cup of Joy retreat, and it is supposed to be wonderful.  I can't wait to share how it goes and what I learn.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. :)

My baby girl

My baby girl is 18 months old today.  That's a Year and a Half.  That's 6 months shy of turning 2.

That's unbelievable.

Dsc_0068_3

I can remember so much about her birth, but her first year is a little more hazy than I last remembered.  I am so thankful that I have photographs to remind me of her tininess, her innocence, how much she has grown.

I love watching Ella Beth smile.  Laugh.  Play.  Learn.

Dsc_0096

She has been such an amazing gift to me.  I can't believe 18 months have passed since she became my baby girl.  I can't remember life without her in it.

Being a mother, being Ella Beth's mother, is such a special blessing.

(Stats from her doctor's appointment today:  Weight - 18 lbs, 8 oz/ not on chart% ;  Height - 31"/ 30%)

Proud moment

No pictures for this post, just a little pride. :)

Today, Ella Beth and I went over to our friend Julie's house to play.  Ella Beth has generally been a very shy little one who doesn't venture far from Mommy; even around people we know well.  Today, however, was a little different.

Ella Beth played, played, played with her new friends Joey and Mac.  Ella Beth acted timid for maybe the first 5 minutes we were there, and then after that she was very out-going.  I am so proud of her!  When Mac's friend, Jace, came over to play we all went downstairs to the play room.  Ella Beth found lots of fun things to get into.  She would venture off and play, and then she would come "check" on ME every once in a while.  I never had to check on her.  She never fussed, acted scared, or anything!

Most of you know that Ella Beth is an extreme Mommy's girl, so usually our play-dates involve a lot of Mommy playing with Ella Beth.  Not today!  Today, Mommy got to enjoy a reasonable amount of adult conversation and interaction.  Such a nice surprise.  Now, don't go thinking we just left the kids alone to themselves; we were always in the same room.  But, Ella Beth really enjoyed herself.  She even let Mac pull her pants up over and over again!  (Ella Beth has finally moved into 12-18 month pants b/c her 6-12 month pants are too short; however, they don't stay up so well!)  Mac would just say, "Your pants are falling down," and Ella Beth would stand still long enough for him to hike 'em up!  It was too cute!

Okay, so maybe you don't appreciate my pride in Ella Beth the way I do, but today was a bit of a milestone for Ella Beth.  Hopefully, this means that she will be a little more out-going for lots of play-dates in the future.  Or at least maybe when Landon comes she will occupy herself a bit more while I'm nursing/changing his diaper/etc.  Crossing my fingers!!!
